1/10 · Mindset
The Agile Manifesto expresses four value statements, each contrasting two things where the first is valued more, while the second still has value. Which of the following correctly states one of these four value statements as written in the Manifesto?
ACustomer collaboration over contract negotiation.
BComprehensive documentation over working software.
CFollowing a plan over responding to change.
DProcesses and tools over individuals and interactions.
Show answer & explanation
A is correct. The Agile Manifesto's four value statements are: individuals and interactions over processes and tools; working software over comprehensive documentation; customer collaboration over contract negotiation; and responding to change over following a plan. Only option A states one of these pairs in the correct order.

2/10 · Leadership
According to the Agile Practice Guide, which behavior BEST exemplifies servant leadership by a Scrum Master?
APersonally reviewing and approving every line of code before it can be merged.
BUnilaterally setting the sprint goal to align with an external stakeholder deadline.
CProactively identifying and removing organizational obstacles so the team can focus on delivering value.
DAssigning specific daily tasks to each team member to guarantee the sprint backlog is completed on schedule.
Show answer & explanation
C is correct. Servant leadership inverts the traditional authority hierarchy: the leader's primary job is to serve the team by removing obstacles, enabling focus, and fostering an environment where the team can self-organize and deliver value. Directive, gatekeeping, or unilateral behaviors are anti-patterns because they concentrate decision authority with the leader instead of the team.

3/10 · Product
A product owner is kicking off a new initiative and wants to align stakeholders before any backlog items are written. Which statement best describes the primary purpose of a product vision?
AIt provides a concise, shared picture of the desired future state that guides prioritization and decision-making.
BIt lists every user story required to complete the product, ordered by priority.
CIt functions as a legally binding scope document that cannot change once approved.
DIt defines detailed acceptance criteria for the first three iterations of work.
Show answer & explanation
A is correct. A product vision is a brief, inspiring statement of the desired end state that keeps stakeholders aligned and provides the 'why' behind prioritization decisions across the roadmap and backlog. It is not a detailed plan, contract, or backlog itself.

4/10 · Delivery
What is the PRIMARY purpose of the Daily Scrum (daily stand-up) in Scrum?
ATo allow the Product Owner to reprioritize the Product Backlog based on new stakeholder requests.
BTo give the Scrum Master or a manager a status update on each individual's assigned tasks.
CFor the Developers to inspect progress toward the Sprint Goal and adapt the plan for the next 24 hours.
DTo formally re-estimate the remaining Sprint Backlog items in story points.
Show answer & explanation
C is correct. The Daily Scrum is a 15-minute, team-facing event for the Developers to inspect progress toward the Sprint Goal and adapt the Sprint Backlog and plan for the next 24 hours — it is not a status meeting for management. Re-estimation and backlog reprioritization happen in other events (refinement, planning), not the Daily Scrum.

5/10 · Mindset
A Scrum Master is coaching a new cross-functional team on why the team inspects working increments every Sprint instead of relying on a detailed upfront plan. Which set of terms correctly names the three pillars of empirical process control that underpin this approach?
APlanning, execution, and monitoring.
BCommunication, simplicity, and feedback.
CTransparency, inspection, and adaptation.
DCommitment, focus, and courage.
Show answer & explanation
C is correct. Empiricism holds that knowledge comes from experience and decisions are based on what is observed. Its three pillars—transparency, inspection, and adaptation—allow teams to inspect real, working results frequently and adapt their approach, rather than committing to a long, detailed upfront plan.

6/10 · Leadership
A junior developer on an XP team repeatedly asks the team lead for step-by-step instructions on every task instead of experimenting with an approach. The team lead wants to build the developer's independent problem-solving ability rather than simply supplying answers. Which approach is MOST consistent with a coaching mindset?
AEscalate the situation to the developer's line manager and recommend a formal performance improvement plan.
BReassign the developer's tasks permanently to a senior pair so mistakes are avoided.
CAsk open-ended questions that help the developer explore options and reflect on trade-offs before choosing an approach.
DProvide complete, detailed instructions each time to minimize the risk of the developer making mistakes.
Show answer & explanation
C is correct. Coaching differs from mentoring in that it emphasizes asking questions to help individuals discover their own solutions rather than handing over answers or expertise directly. This builds the team member's capability and confidence over time, which aligns with the Agile Practice Guide's description of leaders fostering growth in their teams.

7/10 · Product
How does a product roadmap most accurately differ from a product backlog?
AThe roadmap replaces the backlog once the minimum viable product has shipped.
BThe roadmap communicates high-level themes and approximate timeframes for delivering value, while the backlog holds the detailed, ordered work items that realize it.
CThe roadmap is used only in Kanban, while the backlog is used only in Scrum.
DThe roadmap is a granular, continuously reprioritized list of items ready for the next iteration.
Show answer & explanation
B is correct. The roadmap is a strategic, high-level communication tool showing themes and rough timing, while the backlog is the tactical, ordered, and continuously refined set of specific work items used to plan near-term delivery.

A software support team uses a Kanban board with a WIP limit of 4 in the 'In Progress' column. A stakeholder urgently asks the team to start a fifth item immediately, and a team member pulls it in without finishing anything else. Over the following two weeks, average cycle time steadily increases. Applying Kanban's core principles, what should the team do?
AAsk the Product Owner to route urgent items through a formal change-control step before the next Sprint Planning.
BStop pulling new work into 'In Progress,' swarm to help finish existing items, and enforce the WIP limit going forward.
CTrack the fifth item separately outside the board so it doesn't count against the WIP limit.
DRaise the WIP limit to 5 so future urgent requests can be accommodated without violating policy.
Show answer & explanation
B is correct. Kanban's WIP limits exist to protect flow: when a limit is violated, the correct response is to stop starting new work and swarm to finish items already in progress, then investigate why the limit was bypassed. Simply raising the limit or hiding the extra item treats the symptom rather than the cause and typically increases cycle time further, contrary to Kanban's core principle of limiting WIP to improve flow.

9/10 · Mindset · hard
A newly appointed engineering director, previously accustomed to a command-and-control style, wants to genuinely foster an agile culture and psychological safety across several Scrum and Kanban teams. Which leadership behavior BEST reflects this goal?
ASet a fixed velocity target that every team must meet each Sprint, regardless of context.
BAct as a servant leader by removing organizational impediments, empowering teams to make decisions within their domain, and modeling curiosity and support rather than directive control.
CPersonally assign each team member's daily tasks to ensure consistent progress across teams.
DPersonally review and approve every user story before a team may begin work on it.
Show answer & explanation
B is correct. Agile Practice Guide describes leaders in agile environments as servant leaders who focus on removing impediments, empowering teams, and building trust, rather than directing work through command-and-control. This behavior is foundational to fostering an agile culture and psychological safety at scale.

A medical device company must submit fixed, government-mandated documentation at defined phase gates for regulatory approval, but the underlying detection algorithm requires ongoing experimentation because the final approach is not yet known. The project lead proposes phase-gated regulatory milestones with iterative sprints nested inside each phase for algorithm development. What is the BEST justification for this hybrid design?
AA hybrid life cycle is appropriate because different parts of the same project can have different levels of uncertainty, and each part should use the life cycle element (predictive or agile) best matched to its own risk and volatility.
BAgile methods cannot be used at all in regulated environments, so the entire project must remain predictive.
CHybrid approaches should never be used because a project must select either a purely predictive or a purely agile life cycle for consistency.
DA hybrid design is unnecessary because a purely predictive life cycle can iterate just as effectively as an agile one for algorithm development.
Show answer & explanation
A is correct. Hybrid life cycles combine predictive and agile elements deliberately, matching each part of a project to its own uncertainty profile. Here, the fixed regulatory milestones fit a predictive, phase-gated structure, while the unresolved algorithm design benefits from agile experimentation, iteration, and empirical learning within each phase.

PMI-ACP® practice — FAQ

Did the PMI-ACP® exam change recently?

Yes — a new Examination Content Outline took effect on 8 November 2024, replacing the old 7-domain structure with four domains: Mindset (28%), Delivery (28%), Leadership (25%) and Product (19%). Make sure your prep material targets the current version — ours does.

PMI-ACP® vs PSM I — which should I choose?

PMI-ACP covers multiple agile approaches (Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP) and requires documented experience plus 21 training hours, with renewal every 3 years. PSM I focuses purely on Scrum, has no prerequisites and never expires. Breadth and PMI recognition vs depth and simplicity.

How many questions is the PMI-ACP® exam and how long is it?

120 questions (100 scored + 20 unscored pretest, randomly mixed) — multiple choice, multiple response, drag-and-drop and exhibit-based items — in 180 minutes, with an optional 10-minute break after the first 60 items.

What is the passing score for PMI-ACP®?

PMI does not publish a numeric cut score — results are pass/fail with per-area performance indicators. Aim for a consistent 80–85% on realistic mocks before booking.

What is the PMI-ACP® pass rate?

PMI does not publish official pass rates, so any exact percentage quoted online is unverified. The readiness signal that actually predicts passing: consistently holding 80–85% on realistic, full-length practice exams before you book.

What are the PMI-ACP® eligibility requirements?

Secondary diploma (or global equivalent) + 21 contact hours of agile training, plus agile experience: 2 years within the last 5 (or 1 year + GAC degree, or 1 year + an active third-party agile certification held over a year, or an active PMP which satisfies experience outright).

How much does PMI-ACP® cost?

Commonly reported pricing: $435 for PMI members / $495 non-members, retake $335/$395 — PMI adjusts by region, verify on pmi.org. PMI membership (~$154/yr) is optional.

How long should I study for PMI-ACP®?

For most candidates, commonly reported 80–120 hours plus the mandatory 21 contact hours of training. What matters most is practising questions and analysing why each option is right or wrong — not just reading.

Does the PMI-ACP® certification need recertification?

30 PDUs every 3 years under PMI's CCR program.

Are ExamDeck's PMI-ACP® questions exam dumps?

No — every question is original, written to test the concepts and reviewed before it ships, with an explanation linked to the source for every option. Dumps are stale, often wrong, and against PMI's policies.
