1/10 · Kanban practices and Definition of Workflow · medium
A Scrum Team starts using a Kanban board. A manager suggests that since work is now pulled continuously, the team can stop treating Scrum as binding. Which position is consistent with the Kanban Guide for Scrum Teams?
Akeep the Scrum framework intact and add flow practices on top of it
Bdrop the Sprint but keep the three accountabilities and the artifacts
Ckeep the Sprint but let flow metrics replace the Sprint Retrospective
Dapply Scrum to the Developers and Kanban to the Product Owner
Answer: A. The Kanban Guide says it is not meant to replace or discount any part of the Scrum Guide, and that the Scrum Guide applies in its entirety. Kanban practices are layered onto Scrum, not substituted for its elements.

2/10 · Flow metrics and Service Level Expectations · medium
A Scrum Team's board shows five items in progress. Its Service Level Expectation says 85% of items finish in 8 days or less. At the Daily Scrum the Developers want to spot which unfinished items are most likely to miss that expectation. What should they look at?
Athe average cycle time of items finished in the last Sprint
Bthe throughput recorded for the previous Sprint
Cthe time elapsed since each unfinished item started
Dthe count of items currently in progress
Answer: C. The flow-based Daily Scrum asks about the age of each item in progress and which items have violated or are about to violate their SLE. Work Item Age is the elapsed time between when an item started and the current time, so it is the metric that exposes at-risk items. Cycle time, throughput and WIP describe finished work, output and volume.

A Scrum Team adds Kanban and must post a Service Level Expectation on its board. Which statement is correctly formed for this purpose?
A80% of work items will be finished in six days or less
Bthe average work item will be finished in four days
C80% of work items will meet the Definition of Done each Sprint
Dthe team will finish twelve work items in each Sprint
Answer: A. The guide says an SLE forecasts how long it should take a given item to flow from start to finish. It has two parts: "a range of possible outcomes and a probability associated with that range". Only the first option has both parts.

In a Daily Scrum, a Developer reports that the invoice export item was started nine working days ago and is still in the Testing state. A teammate says its Cycle Time is nine days. Which statement is accurate for this item?
Anine days is its Work Item Age; its Cycle Time is not yet known
Bnine days is already its Cycle Time, measured from start to today
Cthe item is excluded from WIP while it waits in Testing
Dits Work Item Age restarts at zero whenever it moves to another state
Answer: A. Work Item Age applies to items still in progress and runs from the start of the item to now. Cycle Time is the elapsed time between start and finish, so it exists only for finished items. A started, unfinished item also remains part of WIP.

A team's Sprint Backlog is fully transparent, yet nobody can see how items reach the Sprint from the Product Backlog or what happens to them after they become part of a "Done" Increment. According to the Kanban Guide, what does Kanban contribute here?
Aforecasts from flow data in place of Sprint Backlog inspection
Ban extra event to review the Sprint Backlog on the board
Cvisible movement of work into and beyond the Sprint Backlog
Da new accountability owning the board and the Sprint Backlog
Answer: C. The guide notes that Scrum mandates a transparent Sprint Backlog but gives limited guidance on making the flow of work into the Sprint Backlog and beyond "Done" transparent. Visualizing work in new ways is where Kanban helps.

During a two-week Sprint a team finished 9 work items, which together were sized at 36 story points, and left 2 more items started but unfinished. The team tracks Throughput as one of its flow metrics. What is the Throughput for this Sprint?
A9 items per Sprint
B36 points per Sprint
C11 items per Sprint
D9 items per week
Answer: A. The Kanban Guide for Scrum Teams defines Throughput as the number of work items finished per unit of time and stresses that the measurement is the exact count of work items. Sizing such as story points does not enter the calculation, and items started but not finished are not counted, so 9 finished items in the Sprint is a Throughput of 9 items per Sprint.

A newly formed Scrum Team has just started applying Kanban. It has no recorded cycle times yet, but it is asked to publish a forecast of how long its work items should take. What should the team do?
Aleave it undefined until enough historical data exists
Bborrow the expectation of another Scrum Team that already has data
Cpost a best guess now and replace it when enough data exists
Dlet the Product Owner fix a target to hold the team to
Answer: C. The SLE is based on a Scrum Team's historical cycle time. The guide states that if no data exists, "the Scrum Team should make its best guess" and then replace it once there is enough historical data to calculate a proper SLE.

A Scrum Team's average Cycle Time has grown from 4 to 9 days over three Sprints while its Throughput stayed about the same. The Developers usually work on many items in parallel. According to the Kanban Guide, what should the team consider first?
Awidening the SLE so that fewer items count as late
Blowering the number of items in progress at the same time
Cstarting additional items in parallel to keep Developers busy
Dextending the Sprint to give items more time to finish
Answer: B. Little's Law shows that for a given throughput, the more items worked on at once, the longer they take to finish. For that reason the Kanban Guide says that if cycle times are too long, the first action to consider is lowering WIP.

A team posts on its board the statement "Items take about eight days to finish." The Scrum Master says it is not yet a proper Service Level Expectation. What does the statement lack?
Aa separate target figure for each upcoming Sprint
Ba cap on how many items may be in progress at once
Cthe name of the person accountable for each item
Da probability that items finish within that range
Answer: D. The SLE has two parts: a range of outcomes and an associated probability, for example 85% of items finished in eight days or less. A bare duration gives only the first part.

A team's limit for its in-progress columns is five items, and five items are currently started. A stakeholder asks for a new item to be started today. What does the team's pull system call for?
Astart it today and exceed the limit by one started item
Bstart it and raise the limit until one started item finishes
Chold it until the count of started items falls below the limit
Dhold it until Sprint Planning, whatever the count of started items
Answer: C. Limiting WIP creates a pull system: the team starts an item only when there is a clear signal, in contrast to a push system where work starts when requested. When WIP falls below the defined limit, that is the signal to start new work.

PSK I practice - FAQ
Do I need to know Scrum for PSK I?
Yes. The Kanban Guide for Scrum Teams adds flow practices on top of Scrum and states that the Scrum Guide applies in its entirety, so questions mix both guides. Teams new to Scrum usually take PSM I first.
What does PSK I test that PSM I doesn't?
Flow: the Definition of Workflow, limiting work in progress, active management of work items, the Service Level Expectation and the four flow metrics (WIP, Cycle Time, Work Item Age, Throughput), plus how each Scrum event changes when a team uses Kanban.
How many questions is the PSK I exam and how long is it?
45 questions - multiple choice, multiple answer and true/false - in 60 minutes, taken online directly through Scrum.org (English).
What is the passing score for PSK I?
The passing score is 85%. Aim for a consistent 80-85% on realistic practice exams before booking.
What is the PSK I pass rate?
Scrum.org does not publish official pass rates, so any exact percentage quoted online is unverified. The readiness signal that actually predicts passing: consistently holding 80-85% on realistic, full-length practice exams before you book.
What are the PSK I eligibility requirements?
No prerequisites - anyone can buy an attempt and take it online, anytime. The Professional Scrum with Kanban class is recommended by Scrum.org but not required; self-study of the Kanban Guide for Scrum Teams and the Scrum Guide is a normal path.
How much does PSK I cost?
$200 USD per attempt, purchased directly from Scrum.org (scrum.org assessment page, archived 11 Dec 2025). No membership needed; a failed attempt means buying another.
How long should I study for PSK I?
For most candidates, commonly reported 15-30 hours if you already know the Scrum Guide (the Kanban Guide is short, the 85% bar is not). What matters most is practising questions and analysing why each option is right or wrong - not just reading.
Does the PSK I certification need recertification?
None - PSK I is a lifetime certification with no annual renewal fee.
Are ExamDeck's PSK I questions exam dumps?
No - every question is original, written to test the concepts and reviewed before it ships, with an explanation linked to the source for every option. Dumps are stale, often wrong, and against Scrum.org's policies.
