The activity 'Operate Print Shop' is marked «singleExecution» and receives one print job per invocation through its input parameter. It is invoked three times in quick succession, for jobs J1, J2 and J3. Shortly afterwards, before any output has been produced for J2 or J3, the flow for J1 reaches an activity final node owned by 'Operate Print Shop'. Under UML 2.5.1, what becomes of jobs J2 and J3?
ATheir invocations were refused while J1 was running.
BTheir processing is aborted at that same moment.
CThey carry on, and the final node closes the flow for J1.
DTheir processing starts next, from a queue behind J1.
Answer: B. 15.2.3.6 Activity Execution (PDF p. 420): isSingleExecution indicates whether the same execution handles the tokens of all invocations; with one shared execution, tokens may be held up behind other tokens, overtake them and even abort each other, for example through ActivityFinalNodes. Under 15.3.3.2 Final Nodes (PDF p. 430), a token reaching an ActivityFinalNode owned by an activity terminates the execution of that activity, while a FlowFinalNode destroys the tokens it accepts with no effect on other flows. The specification therefore recommends flow final nodes, or separate executions, when flows must not abort one another.

In a bidding activity, 'Collect Bid' produces one bid token at a time over several days. Its outgoing object flow to 'Award Bid' has the annotation {weight = *}. How do the bid tokens traverse this edge?
AEach token traverses individually as soon as it is offered
BTogether, once all tokens offered by the source can be accepted
COnly the first token traverses and any others are destroyed
DTogether, as soon as the target has accepted any one token
Answer: B. The weight of an edge dictates the minimum number of tokens that must traverse it at the same time. An unlimited weight, written '*', means that all tokens offered by the source must be accepted before any of them traverses the edge. Bids therefore move to 'Award Bid' as one group (15.2.3.3).

The activity 'Assemble Computer' has two non-streaming out Parameters: 'assembled' and 'rejected', the latter with isException = true. A token is already on the output ActivityParameterNode for 'assembled' when a token arrives at the node for 'rejected'. What does the invoker receive?
AOnly the value of the exception parameter
BBoth values, the exception value last
COnly the value of the assembled parameter
DBoth values, after other flows have finished
Answer: A. An object token arriving at an output node of an exception Parameter terminates the Activity immediately. The value goes to the exception Parameter, but 'any tokens on other output ActivityParameterNodes associated with non-streaming Parameters are lost' (15.2.3.6).

An object node 'Pending Orders' has upperBound = 2 and currently holds two tokens. A third Order token is offered to it by an incoming object flow. Later, one held token leaves the node on an outgoing edge. What is the behavior of 'Pending Orders' regarding the third token?
AIt accepts the offer at once and discards the oldest held token.
BIt refuses the offer, and the offered token is destroyed at once.
CIt refuses the offer while full, and may accept it after a held token leaves.
DIt accepts the offer at once, and the activity execution ends with an exception.
Answer: C. If the number of tokens held is greater than or equal to the evaluated upperBound, the ObjectNode "shall not accept any further tokens until some of the ones it is holding are removed". When removal brings the count below the bound, the node may accept pending offers up to the limit (15.4.3.1).

The activity 'Settle Account' has three Parameters: 'request' with direction in, 'ledger' with direction inout and 'receipt' with direction return. How many ActivityParameterNodes does the activity have for these Parameters?
AThree, one node for each Parameter.
BFive, with two each for the inout and return Parameters.
CSix, two nodes for each of the three Parameters.
DFour, with two nodes for the inout Parameter.
Answer: D. An Activity has one ActivityParameterNode corresponding to each in, out, or return Parameter and two for each inout Parameter (15.4.3.2). Here: 1 for 'request', 2 for 'ledger', 1 for 'receipt', totalling four.
