Class Household has two parts, adult : Person [2] and car : Car [2]. In its internal structure they are joined by a connector typed by the association Drives; no multiplicities are shown on the connector's ends. In the class diagram, Drives links Person to Car with multiplicity * at both ends. Two households, h1 and h2, are created. Which links does the connector specify?
ALinks between any adult and any of the four cars
BLinks in a topology that the model leaves undecided
CEach adult linked to each car of the same household
DEach adult linked to one car of the same household
Answer: C. Sub clause 11.2.3.3 (PDF p. 226) states that, in contrast to Associations, which specify links between any suitably-typed instances of the associated Classifiers, Connectors specify links between instances playing the connected roles only. Sub clause 11.2.4 (PDF p. 228) adds that when no multiplicity is shown on a connector end, it matches the multiplicity of the role the end is attached to. Sub clause 11.2.5 (PDF pp. 229-230) explains that when end multiplicities match those of the roles, the roles are fully connected by links (the star pattern of Figure 11.6), and the example of Figure 11.5 notes that instances playing connected roles may only be linked if they are roles of the same containing instance. So in h1 and in h2 each adult is linked to each of that household's two cars, and no link crosses between the households. Source: OMG UML 2.5.1 specification

Class Rack has a part box slot : Card [3]. Card is an EncapsulatedClassifier with a Port bus [2]. In the internal structure of Rack a Connector is attached to the Port bus on the part slot, and its ConnectorEnd shows no multiplicity. What multiplicity does that ConnectorEnd have?
A6
B3
C2
D5
Answer: A. When a ConnectorEnd is attached to a Port on a part or role and no multiplicity is shown, the multiplicity of the end matches the multiplicity of the Port multiplied by the multiplicity of the role. Here 2 x 3 gives 6. Using only one factor or the sum contradicts this rule. Class Hub has a Port in. Three delegation Connectors join in to the parts w1, w2 and w3, all on the inner side of the Port. A request arrives at in from the environment. What does UML specify about the forwarding of this request?
AIt is forwarded on the links of all three Connectors
BIt is not defined whether all links or only one carry it
CIt is forwarded on the link of the first Connector only
DIt is lost, since in is not a behavior Port
Answer: B. If several Connectors are attached on one side of a Port, a request arriving on a link from the other side is forwarded on links corresponding to these Connectors. It is not defined whether it goes on all links or on only one of them. Source: OMG Unified Modeling Language 2.5.1 (formal/17-12-05), 11.3.3.1 Ports, p. 233 Source: OMG UML 2.5.1 specification

Class Lab has three parts. Part analyst requires an interface Reporting with the operations summarize() and archive(). Part engine provides an interface containing only summarize(). Part vault provides an interface containing only archive(). One n-ary connector joins analyst, engine and vault. Which rule decides whether the connector is acceptable regarding these operations?
AEvery required operation must find its match in the provided interfaces of one single other end
BEach required operation needs a compatible provided operation at one of the other ends
CThe provided interface at another end must be the very interface Reporting that is required
DOperations match only when the parts at the ends are typed by the same classifier
Answer: B. The compatibility rule works feature by feature: every feature of the effective required Interfaces at a connector end needs at least one compatible feature among the effective provided Interfaces of the elements at the other ends. Different ends may supply different required features, so the rule is satisfied here. The ternary Association Match joins Team, Year and Player, with ends named team, season and goalie. The goalie end has lower multiplicity 1. What does this lower bound require of the links of Match?
AEvery Player instance takes part in at least one link
BA link exists for every pairing of a Team and a Year
CEvery Team instance is linked to at least one Player instance
DEvery Year instance is linked to exactly one Player instance
Answer: B. For n-ary Associations the lower multiplicity of an end is typically 0. A lower bound of 1 or more means a link must exist for each combination of instances at the remaining ends, here each Team and Year pair.
